When not active as a GM, bsl is covering eSports as a journalist.
During the CGS off season, I had every intention of running a regular check-in with the international eSports scene. I wanted to know what our gamers were up to, competitively, throughout the fall. I turned to my esteemed colleague, Berlin Allianz GM Jonas Alsaker-Vikan, for an update on all the European action.
His response:
"Really boring in Europe at the moment. The iSeries event finished a couple of weeks ago in the UK and now there's just nothingness."
Could that be true? Certainly a worldly gamer such as Jonas would know better than I. So I turned to LANDodger, who I am lucky to have at my beck and call for queries of this type. When I asked him if this could be true, he said, "That's eSports." A tournament here and there followed by long periods of nothing but crickets. So much for my regular report.
The competitive environment in Europe is certainly gearing up for the Grand Final of the World Cyber Games in Cologne, Germany. On November 5-9, competitors in several games will take part in this illustrious event. As we reported following the i34 event, some of our CGS pros will be front and center in this competition. The Birmingham Salvo CSS squad is in the running, as well as London Mint's Chris "ChrisyB" Bullard in FIFA. Also from the Mint, Steven "Stune" Embling will compete in Need4Speed, which he mastered only days before the qualifying event. Other CGS participants will include Sydney Undergound's James "Cam" Davey (PGR4), Michael "Bazza" Barrett (FIFA), and David "DaveySkills" Kelly (PGR4).
I can't imagine how many of you are sitting there getting upset because you know that Europe isn't all there is to the international eSports scene. Let us know what's going on in your region. If CGS pros are competing, we certainly want to know about it.
I just won't accept that "nothingness" exists out there, because gamers love to play.

I cant dismiss the fact that i am looking forward to the CGS 2009 season the most, but there are often tournaments and competions to take part in over the course of the year, weahter it be a minor online league or something as major as WCG. For racers it will often involve switching from game to game rather a lot, but im always looking to get involved in Pro gaming as much as i can

I just finished the Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 (Wii) strategy guide, and I will be working on the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe guide next. I may also be working on the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm guide right before MK and I'm hoping to do Animal Crossing (Wii) or Naruto: Broken Bonds (360) before the holidays (if they don't get pushed back).
Hey! I'm a pro gamer too. ^_^ I guess I'm not international, but if I do Broken Bonds I'll have to go to Montreal! Last modified on 8/31/2008 at 6:00 pm EST ![]() |
